Three spaces in a working building from 1868, for meetings, talks, parties, wakes and the occasional wedding. Every hire helps pay for the museum.

The spaces
Hemp Store
The hall where bales of raw hemp were stacked. Brick walls, original roof beams, a timber floor and a hearing loop.

Tables, 60 chairs, a projector and screen, and use of the kitchenette.
Tar Yard
The walled courtyard, with the old bell frame over the gate and festoon lights along the wall.

Festoon lights, 8 outdoor tables and power points. Pair it with the Hemp Store as a wet-weather plan.
Counting House
The ropewalk’s old office and now our reading room. Panelled walls and a long table.

The table, chairs, a screen and tea-making things.
One 12 cm step at the door. We put a ramp out for every booking.

When you can hire
5 pm to 10 pm, any day.
All day Monday, and all day Tuesday and Wednesday outside school holidays.
We can’t hire spaces during public opening hours, because the museum is using them.

Prices and terms
25% off.
A $100 deposit, refunded after the event once we’ve checked the space.
Add the galleries to an evening hire with a volunteer host for $80. Your guests can see the Long Gallery by lamplight, which is worth it.

What’s allowed
Bring your own or use a caterer. The kitchenette has a fridge, a kettle and an urn, but no oven.
If you plan to serve alcohol, talk to us first. It must be served by a caterer who holds the right licence for it.
Welcome until 10 pm. Amplified music in the Hemp Store only, not the Tar Yard.
Freestanding only. Nothing stuck, pinned or nailed to the walls.
Confetti, glitter, candles, open flames and smoke machines. The alarms are sensitive, and the Tarring Room still has enough tar in its walls that we’d rather not find out.
Everyone out by 10 pm, and the space cleared by 10:30 pm.
